Abstract

Citicoline is first identified by Kennedy et al. 1955 and synthesized in 1956. It is an endogenous compund, mononucleotide composed of ribose, cytosine, pyrophosphate and choline. Also as an exogenous source for acetylcholine synthesis. a key neurotransmitter for cellular metabolism. The essential of citicoline is synthesis of cell membrane structural phospholipids and its formation is the rate limiting step in phosphatidylcholine synthesis
