Abstract

This study aims to determine the prevalence of gastrointestinal protozoa infection in domestic cats in Surabaya, as well as to determine the effect of difference age and difference maintenance system to the prevalence of gastrointestinal protozoa infection. This type of research is a survey reasearch by random sampling methods. The sample used in this study is a faeces of domestic cats wich are scattered in different areas of Surabaya . A total of 100 samples were examined using native methods, floatation methods, sedimentation methods and kinyoun-acid staining methods, showed that 14 ( 14%) of the samples tested are positive. The type of gastrointestinal protozoa found are Isospora felis, Isospora rivolta, Balantidium coli and Cryptosporidium sp.. The existence of difference age and difference maintenance systems influence the prevalence of gastrointestinal protozoa infections. As well, this study aims to determine differences of protozoa infections in domestic cats either diarrhea or no diarrhea
