Abstract

English is an international communication language which is used by most people around the world to communicate, including Indonesian. As the government keeps increasing the quality of education in Indonesia, there have been many schools with international standard education which purposes are to increase human resource even since young learners. One of the schools is SD Islam Al-Azhar Kelapa Gading Surabaya. The writer did her internship as an English teacher in SD Islam Al-Azhar Kelapa Gading Surabaya, exactly in 2nd grade. The writer chose SD Islam Al-Azhar Kelapa Gading Surabaya as her internship place because the writer thinks that it was an appropriate way to distribute her ability in teaching as her interest. During the internship, the writer should prepare the lesson plan before she taught the class which required her to present the form, the meaning and the use of English through fun learning activities. The writer was also helped by the supervisors in case to create a successful learning process with the students. Being an English teacher during the internship was a great opportunity for the writer. It was also a precious experience for the writer to teach the students in an international standard school, such as SD Islam Al-Azhar Kelapa Gading Surabaya. In there, the writer really improved her teaching skills, starting from making creative learning activity, organizing the class, handling the lesson materials, to being a good role for the students with different characters. She also learnt a lot about how to encourage the students in purpose to increase the students’ interest in learning English. Hopefully after this internship program, SD Islam Al-Azhar Kelapa Gading Surabaya will keep raising its quality of education. For them who want to improve the teaching language skill, this school is actually the right place to do the internship. Because the education programs are different from others, SD Islam Al-Azhar Kelapa Gading Surabaya can encourage the Teaching Language students to create other programs which can build both the soft skills and academics in education. Lastly, the writer hopes the English Diploma program will monitor the Teaching Language students’ teaching ability one by one through some practice fields. It would be better if the lecturers watch the way of the students teach a real class, so they can give comments or suggestions to the students.
