Abstract

In many cases, society has been divided into two classes, upper and lower class. From this background, it is almost unavoidable that there will be conflicts occur between them regarding their own interests. This phenomenon is well portrayed in Goal film. It is an interesting movie because it provides the representation of the social class based society which gives us real picture of our society today. This research attempts to figure out the structure of social classes represented in the movie. This research also aims to show how someone is struggling to change and criticize the capitalist practice in the society that gives negative impact to the society. This research used Goal film as the research object and also as the primary data. The narrative and non-narrative aspects have been collected as the main data to support the analysis. The data collection focused on particular scenes in the movie that shows details of the structures of capitalist society being portrayed in the movie. As for the non-narrative aspect of the movie, the writer focused on the technical elements such as setting, makeup, and lighting that support the important points of the entire story line. The analysis in this study mainly uses the critical theory on Marxism with the approach to the social classes which has divided society into upper class and lower class. Based on the movie, the lower class society represented in the movie is always burdened by the living cost which always keeps rising every day. On the other hand, the upper class can enjoy the privileged live in luxury which shows how they live differently from lower class society. In this movie, the lower class always suffered that they cannot earn their living needs. The upper class has power to make any actions in order to accomplish their desire. For the lower class, although they do not have enough money, they still live happily and are able to achieve their dreams.
