Abstract

Barleria lupulina Lindl is one of Indonesia medicinal plants that contain iridoid, phenylpropanoid, lignin and benzyl alcohol glycoside. Traditionally it was used as antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic and antiosteoporosis. Based on the previes study, the 70% ethanolic extract, buthanolic fraction and water fraction of B.lupulina stimulates alkaline phosphatase as marker of osteoblast cells (bone formation). In this research, study on the antiosteoporotic activity of 70% ethanolic extracts of B.lupulina and exercise combination on mice that induced by dexamethasone has been done. The result showed that 70% ethanolic extract of B.lupulina increase the number of osteoblast cells and rigidity of the bone matrix by morphology figure. The exercise combination showed the highest number of osteoblast cells.Key words : Barleria lupulina Lindl, osteoblast cells, bone matrix
