Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate the potential transmission of subtype H3 influenza virus on the cat’s sera. The research method using hemagglutination inhibition (HI) test with H3 antigen belonging to Bio Farma it has Avian Influenza-zoonosis Research Center Airlangga University (AIRC-Unair). Cat sera was inactivated at temperature 56oC for 30 minutes. Sera samples (n = 106) were obtained from stray cats living in market, hospital, and farm from Januari till March 2016. The location of sampling was taken at Wonokromo market (n = 9), Keputran market (n = 20), Tambak Rejo market (n = 8), Lamongan market (n = 11), Sidomoro market (n = 4), Baru market (n = 10), Larangan market (n = 18), Krian Baru market (n = 15), Pramuka market (n = 3), avian farm (n = 3), dan Dr. Soetomo hospital (n = 5). The positive sera of specific antibody H3 of the cat is 27. From these data could be indicated about the sporadic transmission of subtype H3 influenza virus from other infected species (mammals, human etc) from the cats of Indonesia in Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Gresik, Lamongan and Jakarta area.
