Abstract

Establishing diagnosis of Chronic Venous Insuficiency (CVI) and Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is still a constraint. A through understanding of anatomy, pathophysiology and diagnostic tests available are needed in dealing with acute and chronic venous disorders. Contrast venography or phlebography nowadays is still as a gold standard for diagnosing CVI and DVT because it has a very high level of sensitivity and spesificity, but its usefulness is limited because of some dilemmatic problems, for example is the invasif action cannot be done in some patients, the high risk of contrast nephropathy and the possibility of greater allergy. Duplex scanning is still considered to be elected as an investigative tool and outputs serial an the clinical progression of thrombosis. In addition, duplex scanning can also be used to assess the long-term damage to the walls of the veins and venous valve function as a result of chronic post-thrombotic syndrome
