Abstract

The aim of this research was to know the effect of ethanol extract of yakon leaves (S. sonchifolius) can prevent the necrotic of hepatocyte in white rat induced by alloxan. Alloxan were intraperitoneally injected 120 mg/kgBW as single dose. A total of twenty male white rats of three months old were used in study. The rats were divided into five groups, 1) negative control group (K-) without alloxan induction and given with CMC Na 0.5%, 2) positive control group (K+) within alloxan induction and given with CMC Na 0,5%, 3) within alloxan induction and extract of Smallanthus sonchifolius 200 mg/kgBW (P1), 4) within alloxan induction and extract of Smallanthus sonchifolius 400 mg/kgBW (P2), 5) within alloxan induction extract of Smallanthus sonchifolius 800 mg/kgBW (P3). Rats were treated for 28 days. The data of this study was analyzed by Anova one way and followed with post hoc Duncan test. The result of this study is Smallanthus sonchifolius could prevent the necrotic of hepatocyte in white rat (Rattus norvegicus) Wistar strain induced by alloxan. The increased dose of ethanol extract of yacon leaves was not effective to prevent the necrotic hepatocyte of white rats (Rattus norvegicus) Wistar strain induced by alloxan.
