Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the pathogen of Eimeria tenella can be attenuated by formaldehyde and to determine the concentration of formaldehyde that is most effective for attenuated of E. tenella in terms of oocysts production. 25 chickens aged three weeks were divided into five treatment groups with randomly. The first treatment (P-I) as a control, the second treatment (P-II) until fifth treatment (P-V), E. tenella soaked in formalin with various concentrations of 0.15%, 0.3%, 0.6% and 1.2%. On the fifth day until the twelfth day post-infection performed by oocysts production examination in infected chickens. The results showed that formaldehyde can attenuated of E. tenella pathogen in broiler chickens. The difference of formalin concentration affected the amount of oocysts production of E. tenella in broiler chickens. Soaking in formalin at a concentration of 1.2% is most effective for attenuated E. tenella.
