Abstract

This study was undertaken to investigate the hypoglicemic effect of repeated oral administration of the non-polisacharide fraction of aqueous extract of Cynodon dactylon (NPF-CD) in overload glucose induced hyperglicemic mice, overload glucose multiple low doses were oral administered 2 kg/BW for 16 days. A total of thirty male BALB-C mice of two months old were used in this study. The mice were devided into five groups: (1) negative control group (K-), that were overload glucose and treated solven aquades and tween80, (2) positive control group (K+), that were overload glucose and treated metformin as a standart drug, (3) NPF-CD 250 mg/kgBW (P1), (4) NPF-CD 500 mg/kgBW (P2), (5) NPF-CD 750 mg/kgBW (P3), (6) NPF-CD 1000mg/KgBW (P4). The treatment was conducted for 10 days. At the end of experiment, all of mice were eutanized and the pancreas were collect by abdominal section for analysis of quantity cells in Langerhans pancreatic islet. The result of this study showed that non-polysacharide fraction of aqueous extract of Cynodon dactylon has high hypoglicemic potential and increased quantity of cell in Langerhans pancreatic islet. Comparatively, the NPF-CD 250 mg/kgBW was found to be more effective than the metformin as a standart drug.
