Abstract

Men and women talk differently. While men tend to show their competitive side in a conversation, women tend to show their cooperative side. The difference between how men and women talk can also be found in Lakoff’s women linguistic features theory. It is said that women language is notable for its powerlessness. This study aims to analyze the women linguistic features that were used by female employer and female employee in The Devil Wears Prada movie. In this study, the writer uses qualitative approach and women linguistic features by Lakoff (1975) as the theory. The data are taken from the movie itself, and then the writer makes a transcription based on the dialogue of the characters. The writer uses 24 scenes from the movie as it shows how female employer and female employee interact in their institution. The result of this study shows that there are nine women linguistic features that female employer uses in the movie. Hypercorrect grammar feature is the only absent feature in her utterances. On the other hand, the writer found that there are eight women linguistic features that female employee uses in the movie. Hypercorrect grammar and precise color terms are the missing feature in her utterances.
