Abstract

Linkage betwixt the space consumption in Kampung Code Romo Mangun and interrelationship between the space and inhabitants affect how the people give meaning to their space. The shifting identity of Kampung Code Romo Mangun as a part of the struggle to survive plays crucial role in the construction of place identity also acts as an exposition to the outside world providing information about a place and influencing the way people see a place. By looking at the space consumption of Kampung Code Romo Mangun the shifting of identity and how it impacts on the meaning creation of local people toward space could be analyzed. This study attempted to answer these questions: 1) How does Kampung Code Romo Mangun’s identity shift? 2) How is Kampung Code Romo Mangun defined by its people? The data concerning this matter is collected, analyzed, and elaborated based on Representational Space of triad concept about the production of space by Henri Lefebvre. The result of the research would uncover the changes of Kampung Code Romo Mangun structurally and functionally, the ideology behind identity changes of Kampung Code Romo Mangun, and the impact of identity changes toward the local people’s definition of their space where it would increase awareness of local people about the significance of the identity of Kampung Code Romo Mangun, increase their awareness to understand deeper, appreciate more, and take a good care of it as part of considerations for the betterment of the village.
