Abstract

Exclusive breast feeding is very essential for a baby. Breast milk contains protein for growth, while AA and DHA accelerate the myelin for brain development. The coverage of exclusive breast milk in community health center (puskesmas) kedungdoro surabaya was 73.3% (2016), which is below government's target (80%). The objective of this study was to analyze the correlation between exclusive breastfeeding and baby's growth at 0-6 months in kedungdoro puskesmas surabaya. This was a cross sectional study. The population was all babies 0-6 month-old who came to posyandu and puskesmas during the study period. We recruited all samples available. The independent variable was the exclusive breast feeding while the dependent variables were babies' growth and development. The instruments were interview sheets and KPSP. We used chi square and fisher tests with p<0.05. There were 64 samples in the study. Most of them, 19 (76%,) received breast milk exclusively. The result of chi square was p=0.029, therefore there was correlation between exclusive breast feeding and babies growth. Most babies, 20 (80%)who received breastfed exclusively had age appropriate development. The result of fisher test was p: 0.611, so there was no correlation between exclusive breast milk and babies' development. The conclusion of this research was most of the respondents have normal growth and development and received breast milk but not exclusively. There was correlation between breastfeeding and growth but there was no correlation between breastfeeding and development.
