Abstract

To describe the corneal endothelial density and morphology in myopic patients and to investigate the correlation between axial length and endothelial cell density. Methods: Non-contact specular microscopy (NIDEK CEM-530) and A-scan ultrasound (Quantel Medical Aviso) with immersion technique were performed on 134 eyes of 68 myopic subjects, mean age 25.81 (SD ± 4.576) years. Patients with best corrected visual acuity less than log MAR 1, glaucoma and diabetes mellitus history, and previous intraocular surgery, were excluded. Results: Total 134 eyes of 68 subjects, consist of 47 female and 21 male, with mean age of 25.81 years. Mean AL was 25.1327 mm and mean ECD was 2692.66 cells/mm2. There was no significant correlation between AL and ECD (p = 0.307). There was no significant difference ECD between genders (p = 0.792), mean ECD on female subject was 2689.68 cells/mm2, mean ECD on male subject was 2699.44 cells/mm2.
