Abstract

To investigate the association between ratio axial length and corneal radius of curvature with refractive errors. Methods : It was a cross-sectional study, consecutive sampling was used to select subjects ≥ 21 of age in Airlangga University Hospital. AL was measured using an A scan ultrasonography (Quantel Medical Axis II) with immersion, CRC was measured using Automated Refractor/Keratometer (Accuref-K 9001) and refractive errors defined by spherical equivalent measured using Automated Refractor/Keratometer (Accuref-K 9001). Result : Total 93 eyes of 48 subject consist of 27 hyperopia, 28 emmetropia and 38 myopia was participated in this study. The subjects were 18 male and 30 female. Mean AL was 23.81 mm. Median CRC was 7.73 mm. Mean AL/CRC was 3.07. Mean AL/CRC in emmetropia was 3.01 ± 0,07. Mean AL and AL/CRC increasing from hyperopia to myopia. Median CRC decreasing from myopia to hyperopia. AL, CRC and AL/CRC have significant correlation with refractive errors (p< 0.001). Coefficients correlation between AL, CRC, AL/CRC and refractive errors were -0.971, 0.512 and -0.793. There were difference mean AL and AL/CRC between either myopia and hyperopia (p< 0.001) or myopia and emmetropia (p< 0.001). There was no difference mean AL between hyperopia and emmetropia (p= 0.133). There was no difference mean AL/CRC between hyperopia and emmetropia (p= 0.506). There was no difference mean CRC between refractive groups (p= 0.590). Conclusion : There was correlation between AL, CRC, AL/CRC with refractive errors. The correlation between refractive errors was significantly stronger with the AL than CRC and AL/CRC.
