Abstract

Maternal Mortality Rate in Indonesia was still far from national target. To overcome the issue, the implementation of at least 4 antenatal care visits are encouraged. However, in 2014, the coverage of K1 – K4 at Puskesmas Keputih, Sukolilo sub-district, Surabaya was still below of target (69.61% & 64.88%). Objective: This research was aimed to describe the support and attendance of husband as well as the quality of antenatal care access at Puskesmas Keputih, Sukolilo sub-district, Surabaya and to analyze the correlation between support and attendance of husband to antenatal care access at Puskesmas Keputih, Sukolilo sub-district, Surabaya. Methods: an analytic - cross-sectional study was conducted with modified Berlin Social Support Scale questionnaire and the question of antenatal care access history of 47 respondents (postpartum women who had given birth from May – December of 2016). Results: There was variation of husband support scores from respondents with: median score of 47.00, highest score of 56.00, and lowest score of 28.00. And also most husbands attended antenatal care to accompany respondents were 6 times, with the highest frequency of attendance was 17 times. Beside that, 75% respondents had made adequate antenatal care access and the others (25%) were not. There was not correlation between husband’s support with antenatal care at Puskesmas Keputih, Sukolilo sub-district, Surabaya (p = 0.182). But there was a correlation between husband’s attendance with antenatal care at Puskesmas Keputih, Sukolilo subdistrict, Surabaya (p = 0.001). Conclusion: The score of husband support was not optimal yet, but overall, the frequency of husband attendance had been good. Most respondents had adequate antenatal care, but then, it is still needed education to comply with the minimal standard for antenatal care. Research is needed to analyze the correlation between husband’s support and antenatal care. Nevertheless, it is needed to educate and give opportunities for husband for attending antenatal care to accompany their wife at Puskesmas Keputih, Sukolilo sub-district, Surabaya.
