Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is one of the world's health problems due to the increasing number of patients. CKD is a disease due to the decline in renal function progressively. Complications that can be found among patients with CKD is anemia. One of the causes of anemia in CKD patients is a loss of blood during hemodialysis (HD). Loss of blood during the hemodialysis process is due to the blood that remains in dialyser. Therefore, the researchers observed the comparison of hemoglobin levels (Hb) of CKD-5 patients undergoing HD 1 times/week and 2 times/week. Type of research that used in this study was observational with cross sectional design. This study is descriptive and analytical. Total sampling was used in this study. The research subjects were obtained as many as 106 patients. This research is collecting secondary data via medical records. Variables studied in this research were age, gender, frequency of hemodialysis, and hemoglobin level. 106 CKD-5 patients undergoing regular HD were analyzed, the prevalence of anemia (according to WHO criteria) was 99% (105/106). The mean age of the subjects was 48.0 years. The amount of subjects which is male (61%) were more than women (39%). A number of 10 patients (9.4%) underwent regular HD 1 times/week, 96 patients (90.6%) underwent regular HD 2 times/week. The mean Hb level CKD-5 patients undergoing regular HD 1 times/week was 7.632 ± 2.33 g/dL, meanwhile CKD-5 patients undergoing regular HD 2 times/week had a mean Hb levels of 7.779 ± 1.86 g/dL. Hemoglobin levels of patients undergoing regular HD was tested using the Mann-Whitney U test. The result of Mann-Whitney U test showed no significant difference because of p > 0.05 (p = 0.893). It can be concluded that there is no significant difference between Hb levels of CKD-5 patients undergoing regular HD at Dialysis Center RSUD Dr. Soetomo in September 2015 – January 2016
