Abstract

Brain tumor is one of the disease that is hard to be early diagnosed. Most patients with brain tumors who present in PHC are already in advanced stage. This is happenned due to lack of information and awareness of early signs and symptoms of this disease. This study aims to identify the distribution of the early signs and symptoms of brain tumors based on the type and location of the tumor. The research type used is descriptive study and cross-sectional observation on 121 patients with brain tumors. The sample is all adult patients suffered from brain tumor in Poli Neurosurgery RSUD Dr. Soetomo in September 2015 - August 2016. The sampling technique used is total sampling, which includes all members of the population who met the inclusion criteria. The variables were observed included age, sex, symptoms and signs of tumor, type of tumor, and tumor location. Secondary data was taken from database belongings to tumor division, department of Neurosurgery at poli RSUD Dr. Soetomo. Of all patients, the most common age is between 36-45 years which were 48 patients (39.7%), sex was dominated by female as many as 91 people (75.2%). The most common symptom presented from anamnesis was headache which affected 73 patients (60.33%), while from physical examination, most presented sign was visual impairment which affected 53 patients (43.80%). 105 patients were suffered from extra-axial tumor and 110 patients were diagnosed with tumor in supra-tentorial area.
