Abstract

Introduction: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is retinal vascular disease that affects patients with diabetes mellitus. Changes in metabolism appears in diabetes mellitus type 2 (DMT2) due to insulin resistance that affects changes in production process and disposal of plasma liproprotein, as LDL-C . The purpose of the study is to find out the profile of DR patients based on gender, age, LDL-C, and DR stages. Methods: This observational descriptive study has conducted by using data from medical records on patients that fulfilled the criteria. Research variables used are gender, age, LDL-C, and DR stages. Collected samples are using total sampling technique regarding to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The study has found that from 45 subjects, subjects distribution are the most at the age of 50-65 years (68.89%), while the fewest at age> 65 years (4.89%). Research subjects are dominated by female (57.78%). Patients with LDL-C ≥130 mg / dl are dominating (53.33%). Females are mostly with LDL-C ≥130 mg / dl (69.23%) whereas males are mostly with LDL-C 100-129 mg / dl (42.10%). The most subjects are in the age range 50-65 years with LDL-C ≥130mg / dl (37.68%), while the fewest are in the age range > 65 years with LDL-C <100 mg / dl (2.22% ) and 100-129mg / dl (2.22%). Females’ right eye is dominated by NPDR (26,67%) and PDR (26,67%) while males’ right eye is dominated by PDR (33,33%). Females’ left eye is dominated by NPDR (33,33%) while males’ left eye is dominated by PDR (26,67%). The right eye is dominated by PDR with 50-65 years old (35,55%) while the left eye is dominated by NPDR with 50-65 years old (35,55%). This research is proven that there is no significant difference between high levels of LDL-C on the stages of diabetic retinopathy in patients with type 2 diabetes subjects in Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya 2015.
