Abstract

Artocarpus champeden Spreng stembark (Moraceae) in Indonesia well known as “cempedak” had been traditionally used for malarial remedies. The difference of soil mineral in growth locations might cause the difference of metabolite fingerprinting. As a consequence, it would be influence the difference of antimalarial activity and the difference of toxicity in the same plant species. The aim of this research was to obtain the metabolite fingerprinting, antimalarial profiles and toxicity profiles of A. champeden stembark from different regions of Indonesia for authentication, efficacy, safety and quality control purpose of this extract. The samples were collected from five different regions of Indonesia: Sumatera, Java, Kalimantan, Maluku and Papua. The metabolite fingerprinting was determined by HPTLC-Densitometry technique, the antimalarial activity in vitro was analysed by HRP2-ELISA technique, the toxicity in vitro was determined by MTT-ELISA technique and the soil mineral was performed by AAS technique. The difference between metabolite fingerprinting, antimalarial activity and toxicity had been analysed by Principle Component Analysis (PCA), Hierarchical Clustering Analysis (HCA) and One Way ANOVA. Whereas the correlation among of them had been analysed by Partial Least Square (PLS). As a result, there is no significant difference among the metabolite fingerprinting and antimalarial activity profiles of A. champeden stembark (p>0.05), whereas for toxicity profiles, there is significant difference among of them (p<0.05).
