Abstract

Introduction: Carpal tunnel syndrome is a syndrome that is frequently caused by compression on median nerve in carpal tunnel inside the forehand; it is one of the occupational disease. The aim of the study is to evaluate the profile of carpal tunnel syndrome patient in Dr. Soetomo Surabaya Hospital Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic in January – December 2014. Methods: This research is a retrospective-descriptive study. The subjects of this study are 54 carpal tunnel syndrome patients in Dr. Soetomo Surabaya Hospital, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic. Sex, Age, body mass index, occupation, and the affected side of the hand as the variables obtained from medical records. Results: The majority of the patients found in this study are females (48 patients); 41-50 age (19 patients); normal BMI and pre-obesity (18 patients each); labor as occupation (23 patients) and; both hands affected (23 patients). Conclusion: Carpal tunnel syndrome is more common in occupation that involves hand movement and is highly related to sex, age, and obesity.
