Abstract

Background: Stroke is one of the leading cause of death in the world. Diabetes mellitus as one of the risk factor can increase someone’s chance of getting stroke 1.5 – 3 times higher as well as increase the mortality and morbidity range. Objective: to evaluate the profile of new inpatients stroke with diabetes melitus type 2 in Neurology Department of RSUD Dr. Soetomo from September 2015 - September 2016. Methods: The study design was observational descriptive retrospective, conducted using medical records of the patients. From 120 patients, 57 was chosen as a sample that suitable with the inclusion criteria. Result: The largest proportion of strokes are ischemic stroke (82 %), most frequent genders are Male (53 %), age ranging from 45 – 65 years old (58 %), Random Plasma Glucose > 200 mg/dl (53 %), Fasting Blood Glucose 80-130 mg/dl (51 %), 2 hour Plasma Glucose <180 mg/dl (47 %), HbA1C > 7 % (49%), period of stay mostly 8-14 days (48 %), and most of the patients are home alive (89 %). Conclusion: The new case of stroke patients with diabetes melitus type 2 are still high. From the research, it is proven that variables analyzed have significant contribution due to the history of the disease. But we hope the next study will conduct a better research using bigger sample and specific methods with inclusion and exclusion criteria that really describes the real condition of the patients.
