Abstract

Background: There are two types of dentin bonding. Dentin bonding that contains HEMA (hydroxyl methacrylate) and HEMA-free. Optimal dentin surface humidity has an important role to achieve a good bond between the dentin and dentin bonding. In this research we used 60% and 80% of humidity, with assumption that 60% is when using the rubber dam and 80% is without using the rubber dam. Purpose: The purpose of this research is to compare the shear strength between HEMA and Non HEMA dentin bonding at 60% and 80% dentin surface humidity. Method: This research using bovine as samples, divided into 4 groups. HEMA containing dentin bonding (Tokuyama Bond Force) for group 1 and 2, HEMA-free containing dentin bonding (Xeno-V) for group 3 and 4. 60% of dentin surface humidity for group 1 and 3, 80% of dentin surface humidity for group 2 and 4. Shear strength measured using autograph. Data analysis for distribution test using One-Sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov. Statistical analysis using One-Way ANOVA and Tukey HSD. Result: HEMA containing dentin bonding has a higher shear strength value than HEMA-free containing dentin bonding. Dentin surface humidity at 60% has a higher shear strength value than dentin surface humidity at 80%. Conclusion: Beside the contents of dentin bonding, optimum dentin surface humidity has an important role to achieve a good bond of the restoration.
