Abstract

Introduction. Menarche is the first menstruation a natural process that occurs in the reproductive female. Menstruation is the release of the wall of the uterus (endometrium) accompanied by a regular and normal bleeding every month from the uterus as a sign that the reproductive organs have matured. Menarche may rise of feelings for children that causes ready and not ready. A mother's role is very important in educating or informing his daugther about menstruation. Methods. This research used a method with cross sectional design. Sampling using purposive sampling criteria the researchers. The sample used is 103 students SD Negeri Surabaya and SD I Rangkah Surabaya Rangkah IV/166 Surabaya who haven't experienced menstruation while research instrument using a questionnaire. Data analysis in this study uses the Spearman's Rho. Results. A total of 79 people (76.7%) the role of mother in mother-child communication well with children who are readiness of menarche and the role of mother in mother-child communication by children who are readiness of menarche as many as 20 people (19.4%) whereas the role of mother in mother-child communication by children who are not ready to face the menarche as many as 4 people (3.9%). The results of the analysis of the data show p value smaller than 0.05 = 0.029 (p < 0.05) with a coefficient correlation r is 0.742. Discussion. There is a relationship between the role of the mother in mother-child communication and readiness the face of menarche in children of school age.
