Abstract

Background : Osteosarcoma is a common primary malignant neoplasm of bone. The etiology of osteosarcoma remains unclear, but there are many theories underlying the pathophysiology of this disease. Purpose : To evaluate the incidence and characteristics of osteosarcoma patients in Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya in January 2013-December 2016. Method : This is a descriptive retrospective study and was performed by evaluating medical record of osteosarcoma patients. Result : The results showed the number of osteosarcoma patients in Dr Soetomo General Hospital as many as 125 patients. Male gender was 78 patients (62,4%) and female were 47 patients (37,6%). Distribution of the most age group was 12-16 years old as many as 54 patients (43.2%) and 17-25 years as many as 45 patients (36%). The location of tumor lesions was most common in distal metaphysis femur of 32 patients (25.6%) and proximal metaphysis tibia of 19 patients (15,2%). The main common complaints were lump or bone mass in 115 patients (92%), painful complaints in 85 patients (68%), swelling complaints in 80 patients (64%), immobility of limb on 20 patients (16%), and complaints of lesions with wound in 3 patients (2.4%). The history of the disease obtained a history of massage in 14 patients (11.2%), and a history of trauma or fracture in 11 patients (8.8%). The diagnosis of anatomic pathology resulted in the most conventional osteosarcoma diagnoses with osteosarcoma results of 87 patients (69,6%), Osteosarcoma Condroblastic type of 13 patients (10.4%), Osteosarcoma Fibroblastic type as many as 8 patients (6.4%). Conclusion : the number of patients each year is fluctuating so that the prevention and management of osteosarcoma should get attention because patients with osteosarkoma will experience a decrease in quality of life
