Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a condition in which the blood vessels have persistently raised pressure. It is one of the major cause of some cardiovascular disease which is the number one cause of death globally (WHO, 2012). This study was conducted to determine the dominant type of personality in patients with hypertension Objective: To determine the dominant type of personality in patients with hypertension Method: Sample was taken from patients diagnosed with primary hypertension at cardiovascular clinic on Dr Soetomo General Hospital. There are some inclution and exclution criterias in this study. Patients who passed the inclution criteria and wiiling to participate in this study was given an informed consent form then being interviewed using a Neo Personality Inventory Questionnaire to determine the dominant type of personality based on the Big Five Personality Theory. Then the data were collected and grouped based on the sex and age demography characteristic. Result: From 40 patient as the participants , there are 27 female (67,5%) and 13 male (32,5%) with ratio of female and male patient 2,07:1, Most of the participants was included in group age of 51 – 60 years (57,5%). The dominant type of personality found in this research is Conscientiousness with the amount of 25 patients (62,5%). Conclusion: Most of the primary hypertension patients have Conscientiousness as the dominant type of personality
