Abstract
Background: Conjunctivitis is the most common eye disease in the community that affects people from all socioeconomic status. Objective: To determine the characteristics of patients with conjunctivitis in Poli Mata RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya from January-December 2014. Materials and Method: A descriptive study to determine characteristics of patients with conjunctivitis in Poli Mata RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya from January-December 2014 according to sex, age, symptom and clinical sign, location of the initial appearance of symptom, frequency of visit, and number of conjunctivitis patients each month. Data were collected from medical records of patients with conjunctivitis in Poli Mata RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya in 2014. The sample in this study was conjunctivitis patients without complications and the number of subjects were 539 patients. Result: The most conjunctivitis patients were male (50.65%), the largest age group was 26-45 years old (25.05%), the most common symptoms and clinical sign perceived by conjunctivitis was red eye (93.63 %), the most common locations of the initial appearance of symptom were oculi dextra and sinistra (65,30%), the highest frequency of visits was 1 visit (75,32%), and the month with the most visitor of conjunctivitis patient was June (14,10%), July, and January (11,32 %). Conclusion: Conjunctivitis occurs mostly in men with the largest age group of 26-45 years old, the most common symptoms and clinical signs was the red eyes that initially appear on both eyes, the highest frequency of visit was 1 visit and the most conjunctivitis patients visited in June, July, and January.
