Abstract

Background: Diarrheoa is the second leading cause of death in children under 5 years old. There are about 1.700.000 cases per year with 760.000 death. In developing country, including Indonesia, diarrhoea still become a health problem. The highest prevalence of diarrhoea in children under 5 years old is 16.7%. The number is quite high considering diarrhoea can be prevented and treated. Objective: The aim of this study is to know about comprehension of mother or childminder about prevention, case, and early intervention of diarrhoea. Method: This research is a non-experimental, quantitative research methods using analytic observational. The population of this study was mother or childminder who have already treated child with diarrhoea. The amount of the sample was 77. The instrument of this research is questionnairre, interview, and medical record. This sample were analyzed with Microsoft Excel and SPSS using Spearman test. Result: The result of the research shows that prevalency of mother/ childminder with moderate comprehension is 54.5% (42 people). Most of mother/ childminder is in their 26-35 years old (48.1%). The level of education of mother/ childminder majority in middle level (46.8%). The income of the family majority between 1 until 3 millions. The result of statistical analytic, p value = 0.277 which means the correlation between level of education and comprehension of the mother/ childminder is significant.
