Abstract
Introduction: Child abuse is one of the worldwide problems that carries a mental,
psychical, and psychological consequences to its victims. Parents hold a central
role to educate children about sex and related matter to make them aware from the
abuse. This study analyzed the influence of sex education for parents through buzz
group to improve their roles in preventing child abuse. Method: The design used
in this study was a one-group pre-experimental with pre-post test. This study
involved 30 parents to students who went to Pos PAUD Kuncup Bunga, one of
the preschool in Surabaya, as respondents. The data were collected using selfadministered
questionnaire by Chen & Chen (2005) and then analyzed using
Wilcoxon signed rank test with significance level of α=0,05. Result: The result
shows that the buzz group method is effective to increase parent educator‟s role in
prevent child sex abuse in Surabaya (p= 0,014). Discussion: The sex education
stimulates parents‟ awareness and roles in prevent their child from becoming the
victim of sexual abuse. This result suggest that buzz group is effective as method
to improve parents‟ role to educate their children in preventing sexual abuse.
Further studies are suggested to involve control group and observe the impact of
the education.
