Abstract

Hazardous chemicals are substances that can cause harm for health and the environment, so that must be controlled with a good system. Many countries have different regulatory systems for classification and labelling of chemicals. In 2006 the United Nations make regulations on a Globally Harmonized System (GHS and in 2008 for each of the chemical companies is obligated to implement the GHS. The implementation of the GHS in Indonesia will benefit for various sectors of the industry especially in industries that use chemicals. PT. Petrosida Gresik is a company that in the process of production and the results using a variety of chemicals as raw materials production. The study was descriptive study. Data obtained from observation and interview using questionnaires to all the workers in the Unit Insektisida & Sidafur PT. Petrosida Gresik as many as 32 respondents, to know the level of worker knowledge about GHS and accidents due to chemicals ever experienced. The data were analyzed descriptively and processed by using tabulation and frequencies and statistic formulation of Frequency Rate (FR) and Safe T-Score (STS). The results showed that the implementation of GHS at PT. Petrosida Gresik had been adequately implemented (63,34%). Both of the provision of SDS and labeling had been adequately implemented (66,66% and 62,24%) respectively. The knowledge of respondent on GHS was still inadequate (62,5%). It can be concluded that the implementation of GHS includes the provision of SDS and labels has not been incompliance with the available standard. The higher the knowledge level of respondents then the risk of work accident due to chemicals is reduced. So, recommendation the company provide training on GHS to all employees. Either SDS and labeling should be written in Bahasa Indonesia and SDS should be located in the workplace.
