Abstract
This study describes the image of American soldiers as heroes in the film 13 hours: The Secret soldier of Benghazi on the character Jack Silva. This study aims to prove whether the concept of "Hero" in Americans still exist or not in the film topic about politics and racial discrimination. Throughout the film, the character of the GRS army shows that they are trying to save American diplomats and Americans in Benghazi by their own way without orders. The main theory used in this research is Joseph Campbell's theory of "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" adapted by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Ph.D. This research is a qualitative study and the process in analyzing data by narrative and non-narrative aspects. The data used in this study is taken from the exposure of narrative aspects such as portrait, picture angle, chart, action and lighting. Whereas Joseph Campbell's theory as a non-narrative aspect that helps the writer in analyzing the main characters. The results of this study indicate that the American soldier corresponds to the main character, Jack Silva, as a hero through the journey of the hero. This shows that there is a power relation in the main character that more American. The same characteristics should correspond to the hero identified in the 13 hours film: The Secret soldier of Benghazi. As a contribution to the study of English literature culture, this study is expected to be a future research reference on the hero image on film.
