Abstract

Adolescent girls who undergo puberty is marked by menarche.The menstrual hygiene pratices that done by adolescent uncorrectly is the main problem. The parental roles is one of the factors related to improve menstrual hygiene. The study is aimed to determine the relationship between parental role and menstrual hygiene in adolescent at SMPN 2 Pare. Methods : This study was a cross-sectional study. The population was 159 adolescent girls, 126 adolescent girls IX grade in SMPN 2 Pare was included in this study. Respondents were selected through cluster sampling technique. The independent variable was the parental role and the dependent variable was the menstrual hygiene practices in adolescents. Data was collected using a questionnaire. The statistical analysis used Spearman Rho with a significance of 0,05. Result : Spearman rho test result was obtained crosstabulation of the parenteral role and menstrual hygiene practices value (p= 0,000) and the coefficient correlation (r= 0,322) so that the result showed that there was a relationship between the parental role and menstrual hygiene practices. Discussion : It can be concluded that the relationship between parental role and menstrual hygiene practices in adolescence is weak. Adolescents do the menstrual hygiene practices is not same with the information that given by their parents.
