Abstract

This study was aimed to discover the preventive ability of bee propolis on teratogenic effect in mice (Mus musculus) foetus exposed by lead acetate 236 mg/kgBW orally. The tablet of bee propolis was manufactured by CC Pollen Co. USA imported and distributed by PT. Harmoni Dinamik Indonesia Jakarta. Twenty-five BALB/C female mice were randomly devided into five groups. C1 was negative control received only Na-CMC 1% , C2 was positive control that administred lead acetate 236 mg/kgBW, T1 that treatment 1 was received 200 mg/kgBW of propolis first and then an hour after that received 236 mg/kgBW of lead acetate, T2 was administred by 400 mg/kgBW of propolis and 236 mg/kgBW of lead acetate for an hour after that, the last treatment is T3 that received 800 mg/kgBW of propolis and 236 mg/kgBW of lead an hour after the first gavaging. The treatment was conducted for 7 days of adaptation and occur until 18 days pregnancy periode. At the end of the research all mice were sacrificed and foetus were collected. Foetus were observed by measure the body weight, Crown Rump Length (CRL) and te amount of mice fetus. The result showed an increasing of body weight and CRL compare to group that only received lead acetate. The result showed that propolis can maintain the amount of mice fetus.
