Abstract

HIV is a type of virus that infected white blood cells and caused a decrease in human immunity resulting AIDS. There were approximately 36.9 million people worldwide living with HIV, with 2.1 million new infected cases in 2015. Indonesia was listed as the second highest HIV-infected country in Southeast Asia. Counseling and pre marital HIV testing conducted to support the government's strategy for early prevention of HIV transmission. The purpose of this study was to deeply analyze the intention of bridal candidates to conduct HIV test with Health Action Process Approach (HAPA) health behavior prediction model in Tambaksari Subdistrict, Surabaya City. This was a descriptive study with qualitative method. We collected opinions, attitudes, experiences, or characteristics individually or in groups through in-depth interviews and observations. Assessment was conducted on three components of HAPA model consisting of action self efficacy, outcome expectancies, and risk awareness. The results showed only two from sixteen pairs of bridal candidates who had intention to get HIV counseling and testing before marriage. Action self efficacy and outcome expectancies from informants were considered quite good. However, most informants still did not show any risk perception or risk awareness. Local regulations that emphasized and clearly specified information about HIV counseling and testing before marriage were required so all bridal candidates in Surabaya know and willing to perform HIV test
