Abstract

Error in perceiving speaker’s utterance may lead to misunderstanding or even miscommunication. This error is called as slips of the ear. This study aims to know the types and the most frequent type of slips of the ear experienced by the students of SDN Mojo VIII in noisy situation. There were 36 students and 10 sentences to be completed by each student in pre-experimental design of listening test. The data from the test is classified according to Bond’s theory about slips of the ear (2005). The researcher analyzed the data by using qualitative approach. As the result, this study involves 314 slips of the ear experienced by the students. It is found that the participants experienced 12 types out of 14 types of slips of the ear. They are slips of the ear on vowel, consonant, segment order, language varieties, non-word, word boundaries, content and function words, morphology, wellformed and ill-formed utterances, constituents, argument structure and function and semantics. It is also found that the most frequent type of slips of the ear is well-formed and ill-formed utterances, which worth 34.39%.
