Abstract

Independence is not a skill that can suddenly appear, but it needs to be taught to children especially at the age of preschool. This is because preschool age is a critical period in the development of children's life cycle independence. The purpose of this study is to explain the relationship between child characteristics and parent sociodemography with the ADL (Activity of Daily Living) independence in preschool children. Methods: The research design used in this study was cross sectional design with the characteristics of children and sosiodemography of parent as independent variable and ADL independence as dependent variable. The sample was taken from 121 parents and children. Probability sampling used in this research. The data collections was with questionnaire and data analysis used logistic regression test with level of significance of ≤ 0,05. Results and Analysis: Childhood has a significant relationship with ADL independence (P = 0.037). Gender and birth order have no significant relationship. The four components of child development have a significant relationship, as well as sociodemography of parent. Conclusion: Independence can be achieved according to the level of age, the greater the child's age the more independent the child in meeting their daily needs.
