SURABAYA.
Skripsi thesis, Universitas Airlangga.
Abstract
Background: Exclusive breastfeeding is giving the infants only breast milk
without any additional foods or drinks. The World Health Organization (WHO)
recommended an exclusive breastfeeding to the infants aged from 0-6 months. The
coverage of Exclusive breastfeeding in Jagir Health Clinic is higher than the
average coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in Surabaya. While, it showed the
lower coverage in the Kenjeran Health Clinic. The aim of this study is to analyze
the relationship of Breastfeeding Self Efficacy (BSE) value to breastfeeding status.
Methods: This study is an observational analytic research with cross-sectional
approach. A total sample of 164 respondents includes nursing mothers who has
infants 6-12 months accordance with the inclusion criteria. The sampling was
conducted by using a consecutive sampling technique. The independent variable
is BSE value, while the dependent variable is the breastfeeding status category
including exclusive breastfeeding and non-exclusive breastfeeding. To determine
the significant level, the data collected will be tested with the Mann Whitney
statistical test at significant level ɑ= 0.05. Result: The result showed that most
breastfeeding mothers in Jagir and Kenjeran’s Health Clinic gave their infants
exclusive breastfeeding (64,6%). After the Mann Whitney test obtained p = 0,000
(p ≤ 0,05), which means there is a correlation between BSE value with
breastfeeding status. Conclusion: Exclusive breastfeeding mothers have a high
average BSE value compared to non exclusive breastfeeding mothers. The high
BSE value shows high self-efficacy of the mothers.
