Abstract

This final report is the result of the writer’s internship in Excellent Children Driyorejo Gresik Elementary School. The writer’s position in the Excellent Children elementary school was English Teacher for Conversation class in Super Excellent Class of grade IV. The ‘Super Excellent Class’ is a special class for learning English besides a normal class. The students of this class have an extra class for learning English every Tuesday until Thursday. In teaching speaking skill, the teacher should have some teaching strategies. Manurung (2015) claimed that significant techniques can help the students to be engaged and motivated during the lesson. The goals of their lessons can be achieved because of the successful teaching strategies. In this report, the writer focused on the use of Picture-cued and Dialogue Completion, writer was also used to assess the improvement of students’ speaking skills. The other two strategies were used as the scaffolding that can be strong indicator for overall oral production. Teaching strategies also need materials and scoring rubric. The materials and scoring rubric can be found from books and journals. For instance, I used Brown’s Language Assessment: Principles and Classroom Practices. There are four techniques that were taken from Brown’s Language Assessment: Principles and Classroom Practices. They are Read Aloud, Word Repetition, Picture-Cued, and Dialogue Completion. Firstly, Read Aloud is reading a story or a passage loudly, whether with or without teacher’s guidance. Secondly, Word Repetition is repeating some words after the teacher. Thirdly, Picture-Cued could be done by making comparative sentence or by giving directions. Lastly, Dialogue Completion is completing a dialogue.
