Abstract

Background: The number of neonatal deaths in RSUD Dr. Soetomo in 2014 are 235 (12.1%) one of the causes is asphyxia neonatorum with 79 death cases and the incidence of preterm premature rupture of membranes at RSUD Dr. Soetomo in 2014 reached 7.9%. This study aims to determine the relationship of asphyxia neonatorum with history of preterm premature rupture of membranes in newborns. Method: This research is Quantitative research with case control design with 252 respondents sample, with Chi-square analysis test α = 0,05 with 95% confidence interval. The subjects of study are asphyxia infants as case variable and non-asphyxia infants as control variable, collecting data by using total sample in case variable group and random sampling technique on control variable group. Secondary data collection from medical records from January to December 2016. Results: It was found that the incidence of asphyxia with a history of premature rupture of membranes was 14 cases (6%) of the 252 infant samples. From this study there is a significant relationship between asphyxia in newborn infants with a history of premature rupture of membranes, proved from the result of Chi Square test obtained ρ = 0,000 <α 0.05. Conclusion: Advice given from this result of research as prevention is to look forward into cooperative acts involving interprofession field including Health Department to give counseling and socialization about proper and adequate antenatal care. Follow up is necessary in order to provide appropriate service for patient with asphyxia neonatorum and preterm premature rupture of membranes. Because diagnosis and rapid treatment can improve the quality and outcomes of infant. Keywords: asphyxia neonatorum, preterm premature rupture of membra
