Abstract
Background: Initial survey at public health services with basic emergency of neonatal obstetric care service in Surabaya was known that 6 of 10 midwives have less of knowledge in management of asphyxia neonatorum. The purpose of this study was to knowing the description about midwives knowledge in management of asphyxia neonatorum at public health services with basic emergency of neonatal obstetric care service in Surabaya. Methods: A type of this research is descriptive research with cross sectional study apporach. The number of respondents were 40 widwives working at public health services with basic emergency of neonatal obstetric care service in Surabaya. The variables used is knowledge’s midwives about management of asphyxia neonatorum. Result: The result of this study from 40 midwives is 46,7% most of the respondents was aged at 31-40 years old, 90% most of them was take a diploma’s education, 80% most of them has already worked around >5 years, and 76,7% most of them was followed a course about management of asphyxia neonatorum. Mostly 100% the respondents answered correctly the question about newly born infants criteria, step of resuscition’s components, for example are heat loss, dry, and stimulate. Mostly 70% the respondents answered wrong question about reason sucking mucus should not be too deep (>5 cm into the mouth or >3 cm into the nose) an indication of chest compression and the measure chest compression. Conclusion: This study showed about 75% most of the midwives has a well knowledge about management of asphyxia neonatorum. When the midwives get more older, get more duration of worked, and had take a course about management of asphyxia neonatorum, so more well the knowledge will them get.
