Abstract

Background: Anemia in pregnancy contributed to high maternal and infant mortality and morbidity rate and increased the risk of Low Weight Baby Born. This study was carried out in order to determine the factors associated with anemia among pregnant women in 3rd trimester at Kalijudan Community Health Center (CHC) in Surabaya. Methods: This study was an analytical type of observational study with cross sectional design. Consecutive sampling was used to take 49 pregnant women in their 3rd trimester attended antenatal care (ANC) at Kalijudan CHC from March to April 2018. Data were analyzed by Chi-Square and Fisher’s Exact Test with significance level of α = 0,05 as bivariate and binary logistic regression as multivariate. Independent variables were age, education, knowledge, parity, pregnancy spacing, nutritional status, adherence to iron supplementation, and regularity of ANC. Dependent variable was anemia. Results: The prevalence of anemia in 3rd trimester pregnant women found in this study was 38,8%. Analysis bivariate result showed p value on age, education, knowledge, parity, pregnancy spacing, nutritional status, adherence to iron supplementation, and regularity of ANC were 0,095; 0,311; 0,007; 0,388; 0,018; 0,019; 0,019; 0,013. Logistic regression analysis showed that regularity of ANC (OR = 0,133; 95% CI 0,031 to 0,580; p = 0,007) was the most dominant variable. Conclusion: Factors associated with anemia among pregnant women in 3rd trimester at Kalijudan CHC were knowledge, pregnancy spapcing, nutritional status, adherence to iron supplementation, and regularity of ANC. Regularity of ANC was the most dominant variable. Keywords: anemia, pregnant women, 3rd trimester
