Abstract

Intoduction : Breast cancer is a cancer case with the highest number of occurrences in Indonesia. With such a high incidence, the mortality rate should be kept to a minimum. But many factors influence the survival of breast cancer. A statement from the consensus of the College of American Pathologist in 1999, there are several things that are prognostic factors for the survival of breast cancer patients, there was stages of TNM, histopathological grading, histopathology, hormone receptors, and HER2 status. Other sources mention patients’s age and metastatic conditions also affect the development of breast cancer. Aims : The aims of this study was to determine differences in survival based on factors that affect the survival of breast cancer patients. Methods : This study was conducted with a retrospective case control design using secondary data from RSUD Dr. Soetomo's medical records in 2013. The technique used to take the samples was purposive sampling. The sample was 45 breast cancer patients in RSUD Dr. Soetomo in January 2013, that able to be contacted again and had a medical record in the POSA RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya. The variables studied were factors that influence breast cancer survival, namely age, pathological stage, histopathology, grading, metastases, estrogen and progesterone, HER2 and cancer subtypes. Results : there is a difference of three years survival rates based on patient’s metastatic state. Patients who experience three-year metastases have lower life expectancy (40%) than patients who do not experience metastases (75%). Conclusion : Metastase was the significant prognostic factors of breast cancer in RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya. Keyword : survival, rate, breast, cancer, clinical, pathological
