Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is now widely reported as a common gynecological complaint. Knowledge and attitude on the management of dysmenorrhea was not adequate. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of a lecture and a brainstorming method (CEBRA) to the level of knowledge and attitude on handled dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design. The population in this study was adolescent girl students at XII grade. Samples were taken using purposive sampling. The samples were 74 adolescent girls, with 37 respondents for the treatment group and 37 respondents for the control group. The data was collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test and Mann Whitney test. Results: The results showed that the statistical Wilcoxon Signed Rank test was obtained on the knowledge and attitudes with the value of p = 0.000 for the treatment group and the control group. Mann Whitney statistical test on the knowledge and attitudes on treatment and control groups was also obtained significant value p = 0.000 at the post test. Discussion: The lecture method and brainstorming method (CEBRA) both significantly affect the level of knowledge and attitudes of adolescent girls on dysmenorrhea treatment in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Surabaya. The study suggest that lecture and brainstorming methods (CEBRA) can be used as one means of health education in order to change for the better health behavior and can increase the actions of adolescent girls to handled dysmenorrhea.
