Abstract

Introduction: The largest patient population in developing country is in productive age due to rheumatic fever which is the common etiology of mitral stenosis. Therefore, it caused even a greater loss. In addition, because mitral stenosis is a progressive disease, it will not directly cause mortality in patients. However, patients will experience a decrease in quality of life for a long time. Methods: This was a descriptive retrospective study using cross-sectional approach and total sampling on medical record of mitral stenosis inpatients at SMF Cardiology and Vascular Medicine of RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya from January 2015 through December 2017. The data was processed using Microsoft Excel and IBM SPSS 20. Results: From the aspect of sociodemografi, most of patients were 30-39 year of age (39%), female (85,4%) and had graduated from middle level of education (senior high school) (85,4%). From the aspect of echocardiographic diagnostic examination, the highest visits were patients with severe degrees (85.4%) with a Wilkins score of ≤ 8 (56.1%). From the aspect of complications, the most complications are atrial fibrillation (61%). From the therapeutic aspect, the most conservative therapy given was loop diuretic (90.2%) and the majority of patients were not given operative therapy (71.4%). Conclusion: The majority of mitral stenosis patients was in the productive age, female, graduated from middle level of education (senior high school), had severe stage of disease, had wilkins scores ≤ 8, had atrial fibrillation, was given loop diuretic therapy and was not treated operatively.
