Abstract

Porter women in Pabean Market of Surabaya always carry heavy loads every day and they do it repeatedly. Porter women usually carry loads of sacks containing onions, nuts, and a variety of spice herbs from 20 kg up to 80 kg at once. They put the loads above their head which supported by the cervical vertebrae, so researcher assumes that they may have stress markers on their cervical vertebrae caused by their activities. The purpose of this research is to know the variation of stress markers on porter women related to age, duration of work, work intensity and weight of loads that can be carried. There are 10 porter women from Pabean Surabaya market as the subject of this research. The method used in this research are observation and interviews for gathering data from the field, and researcher also use x-ray tool to make it easier in observing stress markers. The data were analyzed by using descriptive quantitative method which was done by determining stress markers on porter women’s cervical x-ray photograph. Based on analysis results, there are five subjects that show the osteopits on their cervical vertebrae and the other five subjects have normal cervical bones. Age and duration of work are factors that affect the formation of osteopit on porter women’s cervical vertebrae.
