Abstract

News is one of the most important means to supply information. News cannot be separated from media whether be online or printed. The examples of printed news are newspaper, magazine, tabloid, etc. One of the well-known printed media companies in Indonesia is Jawa Pos. The writer did internship at Jawa Pos and was placed in the international section as a journalist and news translator. The internship was held from 21st December 2017 until 22nd January 2018. The news translation process in Jawa Pos involves several steps such as changing the title and lead, eliminating of unnecessary information, adding important background information, and changing the order of paragraphs. When conducting these four steps, the writer faced obstacles such as changing title and lead and eliminating of unnecessary information. To overcome these problems, the writer took the initiative to ask editor and always practice to translate news. Considering the strategies used by the writer when translating news in Jawa Pos, the writer applied three strategies which are cutting, inclusion of explanation, and substitution. The writer faed obstacle such as substitution, the writer didn’t know how to change unfamiliar word become familiar word. To overcome this problem the writer always use oxford dictionary, google translate, and thesaurus. But also these strategies very helpful for the writer in translating news and rewriting the news in bahasa Indonesia.
