Abstract

Racial issue has been continuous issue that is difficult to accept and can be seen in many aspects of life. The example is a movie, The Butler. In The Butler, the issue is double consciousness that shown in Cecil’s character. This film becomes more interesting to be discussed because the double consciousness issue in this film is very clearly to be analyse. Therefore, this research is conducted to analyze how the Cecil’s character who has a double consciousness experience in the movie The Butler. The type of this research was qualitative research. The method of data collection used The Butler film as data source. The method of data analysis used Narrative and Non-Narrative analysis. The analysis was separated struggle for civil right movement with double consciousness. The results of this research find the double consciousnes experience and represented in Cecil’s character in movie. However, ths research focused only on double consciousness. Therefore, the further research is highly suggested to gain more comprehensive reserach.
