Abstract
Diabetic foot ulcer is the most feared chronic complication for diabetic (DM). DM with ulcer is a chronic disease needed to avoid complications can decrease in the quality of life of patients. Efforts can be made to overcome changes in quality of life include reducing the intensity of pain and odor on the ulcer, preventing amputation and Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) as an adjuvant therapy in accelerating wound healing. This study aims to explain the effect of HBO on the quality of life of patients with diabetic foot ulcers at RSAL Dr. Ramelan Surabaya. This research is an experimental quantitative study using quasy experimental design with a non equivalent control group design approach where the intervention group and the control group were selected then carried out pre and post test. The sample in this study were 70 DM patients suffering from diabetic foot ulcer at RSAL Dr. Ramelan. Data were collected through questionnaires characteristic of WHOQOL-BREF quality questionnaire respondents who were filled independently by respondents. The analysis techniques used were Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney. The results of the study in each control and intervention group domain, the average pre-test value showed that the quality of life of respondents was in the low category, namely physical domains of 68 people (97,1%), psychological domains of 67 people (95,7%), social domain 54 people (77,1%), and environmental domain 62 people (88.6%). After testing using Mann Whitney in the post test, the physical p value domain reached 0.00 (p <0.05), at the psychological domain 0.012 (p <0.05), social domain 0.003 (p <0.05 ), and environmental domain 0,001 (p <0.05), where the intervention group has a better value than the control group. Based on this study it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the quality of life of patients with ulcer before and after HBO according to physical, psychological, social, and environmental health domains, and the influence of HBO on the quality of life of patients with ulcer at RSAL Dr. Ramelan Surabaya. Therefore it is necessary to socialize the effect of HBO on DM patients with foot ulcer, as a treatment option for improving the quality of life of DM patients with foot ulcers.
