Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify H9 subtype Avian Influenza virus in bats from Kalimantan Barat, Sumatera Barat, Kepulauan Riau dan Bawean. The study was located at PADIA LAB (PNF Animal Diagnostic Laboratory) in Surabaya. This research has been conducted since January to March 2019. This study material was respiratory organ from bats in Sumatera Barat, Riau, Bawean, and Kalimantan Barat. Samples were inoculated in SAN (Specific Antibody Negative) 9-11 days embryonated chicken eggs, then were incubated at 37°C for 3 days. At fourth day, the allantoic fluid were harvested. The method used in this research was HA and HI test. There were 4 positive samples out of 104 samples in HA test, 2 samples from Riau and another two positive samples from Bawean. All of the samples were also positive in HI test using antisera of H9. Due to the presence of the virus, further research using Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) needs to be done in order to confirm the presence of the virus.
