Abstract

-------------------------------------------------------- Background : Laboratory tests are required for screening, diagnosis, disease progression monitoring, treatment monitors and disease prognosis. Cholesterol is a type of lipid that has relatively important clinical significance with respect to atherogenesis in Coronary Heart Disease. About two-thirds of important clinical decisions at the hospital are based on laboratory results. A laboratory can produce good results if given good sample quality. Samples that have been taken should be checked immediately, because the stability of the sample may change. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the comparisons of HDL levels on serum with stored serum. Method : This research is done by analytic observational method. Sampling was conducted by random sampling from 32 DIII students - Medical Analyst of Airlangga University Vocational Faculty in December 2017. Fresh serum was promptly checked for HDL levels, while the stored serum experienced a 10-day storage period in the refrigerator prior to the HDL examination. Data analysis using SPSS 16.0 program Result : The results of the descriptive test showed that HDL serum concentrations in fresh serum were averaged 50.69 mg / dl, while serum HDL concentrations were stored at an average of 46.78 mg / dl. The results showed a numerical difference, but there was no statistically significant difference with a significance value of 0.196. Conclusion : The results of HDL serum concentrations on fresh serum and stored serum showed no significant differences, but there were differences in numerical results. Examination of blood lipid levels should be done immediately to get accurate results.
